What outfit would you suggest for my fiction Asian woman college student character?
My new novel will be called Appearances and it is about a few things but one part is about an Asian woman who goes to Columbia University in New York and she sits next to a man in a cafe and asks to hold his hand so they don’t look like strangers. It’s to “keep up appearances” because “people are looking.” She decides to hold his hand for a very long time. It is an extreme and humorous look at how people behave in public. I want her to outfit to include a tucked in shirt. What other details would you suggest? Shirt type, colors, long or short sleeves, pants or shorts etc. The novel takes place in early autumn.

Tricky one, this. My first thought is one that most people will probably say - a full sea-otter costume, with attachable tail and, of course, the whiskers. The trouble with this choice is she'd have to emit the almost ultra-sonic squeaks that otters make almost constantly, but it can be managed with practice. If that's too esoteric, then I'd probably go for a full suit of mediaeval armour, with a radio antenna sticking out of the helmet to add some jazz. Hope this helped.
