Does anyone else here think that Anne Rice's The Wolf's Gift is just spiderman for the literary world?

Spiderman: A newspaper photographer in New York gets bitten by a radioactive spider and starts battling villains with the help of his girlfriend.

The Wolf's Gift: A newspaper journalist in San Francisco gets bitten by a werewolf and starts battling villains with help of his girlfriend.

Update:

True enough, and Peter Parker didn't have the support of friends who knew he was both Peter Parker and Spiderman. . My oversight was that BOTH of the girlfriends and aquaintences in both books play only supporting roles.

Or any of ten thousand other comic book superheroes.

So no, I don't think it is like spiderman, not the least because Spiderman isn't a journalist and didn't even become a photographer till after he was bitten.

Even then, he is a sham, staging his news photos.

Ever think that Spiderman is just a werewolf story, since those stories are older?
