Do you use public transit only to get to work, and is it reliable? Do you do it to benefit the environment, or another reason? Explain.?

I drive to the train station (1.5 miles) and park $4.

    I ride a train (26 miles @ $8.25 each direction)

I ride the subway (sometimes, it depends on my job location @ $2.25 each direction)

It's pretty reliable in the spring, summer and fall

It's not very reliable in the winter. It's usually late in severely cold weather. It has actually shut down before. Trains break down or get canceled.

I ride public transportation because of the wear and tear on my car and if I drive it takes me an hour to an hour and a half to get to work. Whereas if I take the train it only takes me about 40 minutes.

Plus in Boston you pay 20 to $30 to park for the day

I have in the past and from what I remember it was 1.00 each time or a monthly pass for 40.00

Motivators were price (no need for a car) along with a shortage of parking near my apartment,

my place of work, and in that city in general. If doing so can help the environment all the better!

Current job is close enough I get there or back on my bicycle in ten minutes (a bit more if windy),

can take shortcuts whereas in a vehicle easily spend at least that much time in traffic - plus time

spent walking from a car to entrance whereas a bicycle can be parked much closer to the job site.

This employer doesn't pay a lot, is only part-time, and so I need to save money whenever possible.
