At standard temperature and pressure, the volume of one mole of gas is 22.4 liters. The density is the mass of one liter. To determine the molar mass, multiply the density by this number.

    Molar mass = 1.78 * 22.4 = 39.872 grams

You can round this mass to 39.9 grams. I hope this is helpful for you.
