    The vertical portion of the graph represents the period of time during which the low-boiling fraction is gone from the mixture, but before the high-boiling fraction has started to boil. (The fact that the line is not strictly vertical indicates that the drops collected at that time are not truly pure, but a mixture of the original substances.)
