I like being a modern chemist which means that I like to be at an institution with a lot of resources. I like nuclear magnetic resonance because if you understand the principle of it and you have a pure compound then you can draw the chemical structure of your compound from the spectrum. I like purifying things. There are various techniques: distillation, filtration, freeze-concentration, osmosis, liquid-liquid extraction, heating in an oven, solid-phase extraction, centrifugation, high performance liquid chromatography (reverse and forward style), precipitation reactions, and electrophoresis. To some degree I like that the mathematics in chemistry is not too complex and that it is an approximation science. But I also don't like that so I am humble enough to learn how to model from a physicist.

I was educated to be a chemist and a biochemist and a basic computer programmer. I work as a biological chemist so the purification science is out-of-this-world complex. So I miss mixing chemical "A" with "B" and getting product "C". Now I get something(s) or nothing or everything. The biological cell is truly a Pandora's box of thousands of diluted chemical reactions and physical interactions. What will it give me? Heaven knows.

I am just an older than old chemistry teacher. I really like the organization of everything.

I get immense joy out of bending electrons to my will.
