Why do people say “your makeup looks pretty” instead of just saying “you’re pretty”?

They are only complimenting you from doing good on makeup, but maybe makeup doesn't suit you. But, its fine makeup can age the skin so, it's better not to wear one.

Its not about being shady, its about recognizing that you put effort into your looks so people are complimenting that effort.

If you want people to say that you are pretty, and not just your makeup, don't wear as much makeup and focus more on skincare.

I would say it also, because it's not their own beauty. It's their created beauty. Would you say someone is pretty just because of their hair? You would say their hair is pretty. I say only what is actually pretty. If their eyes are pretty only, then I only say their eyes are pretty.

They're complimenting how good you did with your makeup. It can be hard to do and some ppl just aren't good at it. So that's actually a compliment that they told u that.
