When you formatted the "D" Drive, that cleans it of all files written on it. Sorry, but your photos and everything else are forever gone. Daily, weekly or monthly backups on an external hard drive of some type are a wise choice to protect valuable files.

I backup everything I want to keep that's on my computer.

If you have formatted your D drive your photos etc can be restored as long as you have not overwritten them.

There are several recovery programs around some to buy and some free.

They are all good for finding files as it is a relatively simple process but the way they are reported can be messy with the free ones.

Recuva or minitool data recovery are good free ones but easUS data recovery is very good and will do 500MB free.
