I recall the huge hairy blackout knickers worn by the WWRAAf's during the last war.

It was said that they were designed to curtail any developing passions between RAF personal , just in case the bromide place in the airman's tea failed to have a dampening effect. The site of a female body stripping for action , momentarily clad in a pair of those huge blackout knickers always had a complete wilting effect on the hoped for performing male. Probably saved many a young lady from having to inform mummy that her darling daughter was now well and truly 'up the stick'.

They were indeed a garment also designed for warmth. The winter winds blowing across those exposed airfields , were frostbite producing indeed.
