open files in MS Works and save as .doc files, which LibreOffice can open.

When you're choosing what to open, see whether there's an option to view all files, not just, for example, open document format files. Hopefully the WPS documents will show up if you're in the correct directory or folder.

LibreOffice Writer can import WPS formatted documents. You can then save them in a different format if desired.

You may be able to load them into LibreOffice using the import function
