Whats better Linux-Unix or windows environment?

That all depends on you.

I use Linux because there is little risk of malware. I can leave a PC powered for years on end and not worry.

My scientist relatives use Unix for computer modeling because they write their own programs with it. Basically huge scripts. Banks and other such institutions are Unix based because of the speed and everything is custom written. Graphics houses like Pixar are 100% Linux for much the same reasons. There is no reason for a homeowner to use it unless they just like to tinker. Most of the proponents of it here on YA seem somewhat.......er..... iconoclastic...

Better for what?

Windows is more widely used. Linux, as a desktop, is a very niche product with virtually little to no real support.
