the switch on the selector needs adjusting. Should be an easy fix if you have a good mechanic

If it won't start in Park the neutral safety switch also called the range switch is either bad or out of adjustment. Automatics will start in Neutral so if the motor fails to crank try Neutral.

I'd agree, sounds like the neutral safety switch, aka starter inhibitor. That's usually on the linkage somewhere and is there to prevent the engine starting except when the car's in park or neutral. They can go out of whack slightly and can often be put right with a little judicious adjustment. If not, they're a simple switch and easy to replace.

Check the park/neutral switch (transmission range sensor). It could be failing.

Sounds like the "Neutral safety switch"!
Could be on the trans or part of the column.
Look up the location on your particular car. You may be able to replace it yourself or just adjust the linkage.
