    Take several slow deep breaths. Controlling your breathing will help control your whole attitude.

    P.S. - You don't have to do it sitting though. There's still the practicality of dealing with the situation which may involve fight or flight, in which case sitting down would be foolish.

    Literally sitting down and controlling your breathing, in through your nose then a long breathe out over and over again, slows things down, literally calming you down. But you have to be in control and make the breaths long and slow.
