can you switch a pre-payed phone to a post-pay plan? if not, why?

Update:

shopping for a new phone and they said they only had a small selection of phones for post-pay, and then way more options for pre-pay. i don't see why you couldn't do either plan for either phone.

    CALL the company from whom you have the plan.

    The answer may not be the same for all such plans.
