What could the lump on my dog s jaw likely be? Could it be a zit?
I have a four year old pit bull, and we discovered a fairly large lump on her chin yesterday. We have a vet appointment scheduled for the tomorrow. I think the lump is probably new, but I can t be positive. It feels almost like a big zit. Do dogs frequently get zits? Can mast cells appear very quickly? (She had a mast cell removed 2 years ago.)
Additional Info: The lump is bigger than a pea, smaller than a marble. The skin under the fur is a darker red than her surrounding pink skin. It doesn t seem to bother her that we can tell, but it might itch, I think she scratched it.

Dogs can and do get zits/acne on the chin area and staph skin infections, they can even get warts on the face, eyes and in the ears or mouth. It is NOT a normal location for mast cell. But all lumps and bumps should be checked out = Good for you, that you are to going in!

It could be anything from a cyst to a tumor. Fingers crossed it's "nothing."

Today is Saturday & tomorrow Vet are not open.
You would not believe how many skin problems in dogs there are. Dogs develop lots of different kinds of lumps & bumps & most are harmless. Fatty tumors are harmless, they float just below the skin & they are not attached to anything thing. Harmless but they can get quite large. Fatty tumor the size of a foot ball hanging off a dachshund. Harmless but it is in the way & real heavy on one side. Why the owners allowed it to get to this size is unknown. Neglect probably.
Your Vet will be able to tell you just what kind of bump it is & will advise you of his/her opinion. Hope it is harmless.

An infection from an abscessed tooth, a reaction to a bug bite, a cyst - so many possibilities and most of them are easily fixable and NOT cancer. But (unlike many pet owners) you have a vet appointment scheduled, and you will find out soon! I hope it's something very simple.

There's little point anticipating what this growth might, or might not, be. You are doing the right thing having your vet look. Dogs get masses which are not cancerous, for sure. The good news is most masses that are cancerous, can be removed so the cancer doesn't spread.

Don't panic yet but definitely does need looking at I would say. Fingers crossed for the vets tomorrow.
