Fried Fish Over The Years?

A question from Dave at the chippie:

I know that dogfish became popular in late Victorian times.

I know that in the 1930s up to about 1962 herring was the popular fried fish, then because the herring had been overfished the popular fried fish became cod, and haddock also came into the picture.

What other fish were popular, and at what times?

Update:

Before any one mentions it, I asked this in the food category - Yahoo reclassified it.

Update 2:

Specifically,I want to know what fried fish shops sold over the years.

Hake, Halibut, Haddock, Plaice, Monkfish, Rock eel, Rock Salmon and Skate are all sold at the chippie as Fish-N-Chips as they are all white meat fish. Fish from the fishmonger would include Salmon, Tuna, Trout, Herring, Sardine, Mackerel, Dover Sole, Lemon Sole.

The only fried fish around here currently is whitefish, lake trout, walleye, and a couple other I don't remember. You don't really see cod around.

I do not know the history of Duluth, MN, but most of the fish is locally farmed, because Lake Superior fish can contain heavy metals. If you look at the menus, it's pretty obvious people here like baked, smoked, or grilled fish rather than fried.

Dogfish is still sold but is usually called huss or rock. It is a small member of the shark family. Some years ago there was a temporary ban on herring fishing in GB waters and during this time mackerel became more popular and smoked (kippered) mackerel replaced kippers made from herring. After the herring moratorium, both fish became available and most fishmongers sell both.

Plaice and Rock have been popular.
