Emperor Constantine was an Arian, not believing in the divinity of Jesus. How then do some say he invented the Trinity?

Update:

This question turns out to have been made on erroneous information which is widespread even among Christians. Bishop Eusebius who baptized Constantine, had been a defender of Arius, but ultimately, and before baptizing Constantine, was in full agreement with the "homouisios/consubstantial/of one essence" teaching. He was fully in communion with the Church, and no Arian, when he baptized Constantine.

Some of his teaching was by Arians. That didn't stop Constantine being keen to have Jesus recognised as divine - hence his input into the Council of Nicaea. He certainly didn't come up with the Trinity as the doctrine was already present in nascent form long before his time. However it was his stamp of royal approval that got placed on the concept.

Constantine was nothing if not Machiavellian in his thinking and his reasons for backing the concept of the Trinity may have been political rather than theological. Christ as a man was less palatable to the polytheistic Roman audience than Christ as a God and the new state religion needed to be "down with da kids" in order for it to take off. Also, the schism over Christ's nature was starting to cause serious fractures in Church hegemony and unless solved could lead to schism and social unrest. The Eastern and Coptic churches were already collecting their hat and coat and heading for the door over it.

There would still be schisms anyway, but Constantine saw to it that forever more Non-Trinitarian interpretations of Christianity remained minority movements, and often brutally repressed ones at that.

Actually as a Roman, he believed in a multitude of gods. Making christianity legal was a political move to unite the many fractions of the opposing religions. In effect ceasing the arguments among his people.

It wasn't that Constantine was an Arian during his life, it was only on his deathbed that he agreed to be baptised.

The 'pope' who baptised him was 'Arian'.

No one "invented" the Triune God. He revealed Himself in His word as Three Persons.

Because they believe everything that Dan Brown wrote in The DaVinci Code.

The trinity does not exist. It is forgery, a despicable evil lie and against monotheism. The Oneness of God. Such individuals who worship false gods and believing of the trinity will be dealt with by the God of Prophet Abraham, peace and blessings be upon him, on Judgement Day.

Prophet Abraham, peace and blessings be upon him, wasn't a polytheist and a pure, firm believer in One God. The Master of the Heavens, the Earth, everything in between and under the soil. The Lord of whatever people worshiped. The Lord of the stars, certain people worshiped and swore upon the stars instead of God.

For one thing, Jesus, peace and blessings be upon him, does NOT possess divinity and was never a god and will never be one. This too, a despicable evil lie.

More correctly, he re-invented it (to keep the peace),

but he knew it was BS from the get-go...

The Inerrant word of god should be more correctly called

    the Errant Word of Constantine.

He actually rewrote it, and it is chock full of errors.

He did not invent the Trinity. He invented Christianity, borrowing the Trinity from the various pagan religions. As a pagan himself, he knew all about such things.

Constantine became leader of the ROMAN catholic church and he had to appease Both Christians and Pagans

the Trinity gave the Pagans 3 more Gods

if anyone says that, then they have never read a Bible !!

a good example of the Tri Une nature is when John was baptizing Jesus.......a dove ( the Holy Spirit ) landed on His shoulder, while God was heard to speak from Heaven

Emperor Constantine also wasn't a Christian until his deathbed. Most of those people who say Constantine "invented" the trinity are just making up what they want to feel comfortable that their version of how things happened is true, and other Christians' beliefs are false. False beliefs lead to hell, amirite? It's like they shoot themselves in the foot every time. One almost wishes, after a while, that they would notice, or maybe shoot themselves in some more critical area.

He is the father of Trinitarian Christianity. He was a pagan though.
