What brand and model of microwave do you have?
The current microwave that we have is on the fritz. It's taking more than twice as long to heat the food and/or water. Thank you for any help!

Panasonic. Don't know the model. It's about 25 years old and still works great.

Daewoo KOR-6L77. Cheapest one I could find.
I used to have a Sanyo - that was a combination oven so I could make toast in it as well as microwave - but really I never make toast much and the only thing I ever did with it was reheat ready-made meals. I never did find a reason for using the combination facility (microwave and direct heat together).
Then one day it suddenly stopped heating food. The turntable went round but the food was still cold. Obviously the cavity magnetron had finally died. Not bad after 17 years (and I got it cheap because it was the last one in the store as Sanyo had brought out a new model, so they wanted to get rid of it). But when you have a bust magnetron, which is the key component that actually makes the microwaves, might as well buy a new oven. (Yeah I'm a physics graduate so I do actually know how microwave ovens work!)
So I looked around online for the most basic and cheap model I could find and went for the Daewoo. It does the job and was even cheaper than the Sanyo. TBH I am a home COOK - I cook from scratch on the stove and in the oven so I only want it for quick snacks. Actual cookbooks for how to cook things in a microwave oven always seem to smell of desperation! For many things it's no slower on the stove - certainly for anything that needs to be boiled, like rice or pasta. You just can't really do proper cooking in a microwave. So many things are impossible because you can't stir on the heat.
Models change so frequently that maybe this one isn't available. So this is all just to say that I'm happy with Daewoo. Like Samsung, it's from South Korea.
Funny story time... if the store offers you some kind of maintenance or insurance policy, THINK very carefully. When I bought the Sanyo, they offered me one that would give a free replacement if it went wrong within 5 years. "But look, if that happens, I could just buy another one for the same cost as the insurance, so why should I buy the insurance?" True - the policy was the same price as buying the actual microwave. So if the oven lasts for 5 years (which it did - 17 as I said), and I don't buy the insurance, I win! Oh well, they have to try to sell it to you but don't try it with me because I'm very good at "No".

Samsung over the oven. No idea what the model is since I got it several years ago. It’s probably not available for purchase anymore since there’s a newer model every year.
