Question about contraceptive pill?

i started using it after my period was over, i know it's okay to start taking them any time of the month because you'll be protected against pregnancy either way after a week or so, but since i started taking mine during the fertility window and before ovulation i was wondering whats going to happen if i was already ovulating since the pill prevents ovulation, what happens to the egg if it's already passing by the Fallopian tube, and how long should i wait to have unprotected sex? (i mean without a condom)

Update:

i noticed most the comments say i should have started when i got my period, i agree and i knew that, i was my fault for being so indecisive and not making up my mind on weather i should or shouldn't, i'm not afraid of std's as i am in a monogamous relationship and he and i are both healthy, my biggest fear is pregnancy.

You are supposed to start your pills on the first day of your period, or the following Sunday. (If your pack is labeled with days of the week, that can be convenient.)

While you CAN start at any time, it's rather a waste to start in the middle since you might have begun the hormonal process to trigger ovulation (in which case you wouldn't be protected for a couple of weeks) or you might be past ovulation already (in which case you aren't fertile anyway, so it's a waste.)

If you start in the middle, you should use a back-up method for the whole first pack.

An egg only lives for 24 hours.

As you say yourself, the pill is effective after a week - that's your answer.

Generally speaking it's best to use condoms as a back-up method and to reduce STI risk, it's often recommended to do this at least the first month until you're used to taking your pill regularly.

Because you started mid cycle, I would wait until you start your second pill pack just to be sure that you are safe from pregnancy.
