A seed potato is a potato that has been grown to be replanted to produce a potato crop. It's the usual way that potatoes are made available to farmers and growers

a potato grows from another potato.

those little eyes on a potato will grow into a plant.

you just put a potato into the ground and cover it. don't plant too deep. it will grow into a potato plant and when its mature, there will be potatoes under the plant in the ground.

This is what I do: I place the potatoes in a paper bag, and place them in a cool dark place. When the potatoes sprout, I plant whole ones in the center of mounds[if you cut them up, they will rot] so that the new ones have a lot of soil to grow in, and not be exposed to the sun and become green in parts. As they grow, I pile more rich soil around them. When they flower, and the flowers die, they are ready. I found out that red potatoes are the easiest to grow. Good Luck.

In their natural state, potatoes do flower and can produce seeds, but that's not how they're grown by gardeners. Farmers use "seed potatoes" which are basically potatoes that have started to grow eyes or sprouts. You can get these at garden supply stores. The potatoes are cut into pieces so that each piece has at least one eye, then planted. You can do the same thing with potatoes from your kitchen. If they've started to sprout in the bag, just cut them up in a few quarters and plant them in the garden.
