Is tracing service history reasonable cause to ask DVLA for previous owner details.?
I have recently bought a Used Volkswagen Golf from Inchcape Volkswagen and have already lost the service book in our recent move. As we have moved, the V5 no longer states the previous owners details but i do remember that it had a few service stamps from mechanics throughout Wolverhampton but I cannot remember where specifically. It has not been serviced with Volkswagen themselves as I have checked, but I have purchased a duplicate service book and would like to fill in the service history again. Is it reasonable cause to the DVLA if I request previous owner details to ask which garage it may have been serviced at or will they just turn me down? Thanks.

Try asking at a VW main dealer servicing department first: all major brand franchised dealers use shared maintenance databases which enable them to check which EU VW dealers have previously serviced the car.
You then don’t need to contact DVLA and you can send your service history book to each dealer with a prepaid return envelope asking them to stamp and correctly date your book in the correct places. Don’t rely on them knowing where to stamp: put sticky notes on each place you want them to stamp.
As it’s all stored on their system, just a dealer’s print-out is perfectly adequate though.
Obviously, any maintenance done outside of the VW dealer network will not be recorded on their systems.

Hi wrong place to be asking these questions am Inchcape dealer would produce more information from the registration and the VIN number. it would be a chargeable fee.
the DVLA only keep records on the changes from one customer to another.

You can ask DVLA but they won't give out personal information. That is unless you are a parking company and you pay for it.

The name and address of a previous owner isn't important, as long as you can verify service history and insure that the vehicle meets current standards for the country where it is registered.
