75K? There are people making over 100K and living out of their car.
Socializing is fairly easy, paying for the living expenses is another thing where rents increase over 20% each year.
Moved out of the Bay Area in 2018 to Honolulu. Bought a condo and my monthly payments is half of what I was paying for rent for the same square footage.

I've lived many places, California and not. I wouldn't live anyplace else than here - San Francisco.
Added: It has been written that America has become a tug of war between the happy and the unhappy. I'm the happy - Sitting around whining about things is just not for me.

A little Depressed. my town is flooded w survivors of the "Camp" Fire. Real estate and housing shortage but I can't benefit as selling my home leaves me no place to go. These poor people are living in shelters and trailers, traffic is super congested, taxes are high, homeless and displaced people, the economy is slowing, extra litter...kinda rough. At least my dogs like me!

I don't live in California, but I'm a frequent visitor. My impression every time I go there is "how does any average person make a living here?" It's really baffling to me. I mean when a run down shack will cost you a million dollars and a studio apartment will run you 3K a month, how do construction workers, Starbuck's employees, teachers, truck drivers or anyone who works an average job survive there? As for the social life aspect, I would imagine it would be pretty good due to the fact that it is such a populated place. But I certainly couldn't make it there financially.
Even on 75K per year, I don't see how it's possible with the cost of living being what it is there.
