How is this old stair case supporting the rooms on both sides of it via the stud walls..?

The stair case has an old stud wall (balloon framed) which in turn supports 2 floors above them ie bedrooms and a large attic built in 1851. How do I attach a pic?

    Upload the picture to imgur, then include the link to the picture in Additional Information.
