Weighs about 200 pounds. Considering buying a birthstone necklace for my mom.

avoid the 16 inch chains since that would be too tight on the neck of an overweight person. there is no standard. 18 inches should be good, 20 if you want it to fall lower.

The only suitable necklace for an overweight woman is a pearl necklace, and those aren't measured in inches, but ounces. A four to five-ounce load is appropriate, but the overweight woman may require or desire more, depending upon her wardrobe and preference. With chubbos, more is better. Good luck.

There's no standard. A lot depends on the kind of necklines she wears. A mid-length necklace will tend to work its way under a round neckline that's at the collar bone level. A long necklace can be slimming, as it pulls the eye up and down. A choker is probably not a good idea. What length necklace does she usually wear?

There is no standard, especially when put up against your question which lacks so much info.
