.......no more Johnny Walker for me......and have you seen the current Crown Royal commercials? Apparently some intern at an ad agency has scored a big campaign based on expanding their market by reaching out to new demographics - at the expense of turning-off their base customers.

added: remembered a few other failed campaigns: BUICK - for many years their slogan was "When better cars are built, Buick will build them" - then they tried "Wouldn't you rather have a Buick?" - and that invited a negative answer and sales went to heck . . . . . . . . Miller High Life: was always sold as "The Champaign of Bottled Beers" . . . then they announced that they were targeting black people to "broaden the customer base" - killed High Life sales but they survived by coming-up with Miller Lite, malt liquors etc and have done well, but High Life never recovered..........likewise Cadillac decided that their demographics were a dieing market (literally) so have also gone after a hipster and black urban clientele ..... worked for a little while but now announcing the end of many of their models.

Still out: for whatever reason, Suburu earned the rep as the vehicle of choice for lesbians . . . . . . so the big push this year has been "Suburu Means Love": a top-selling brand, but remains to be seen how large the demographic is for people who pick a car because it projects Love.

Interesting but we don't need more ads for alcohol.

I saw a jewelry ad recently that involved two women. Several years ago some advertisers experimented with ads with gay couples, but none since. Whether it's a good idea financially depends on whether it attracts more LGBTQ customers than it turns off straight ones. I don't know if LGBTQ audiences care - personally, I only care if the models and actors are hot. A Black comic once remarked that until he saw a Black man advertising mouthwash, he had no idea that Black people could have bad breath! Maybe gay people don't know that you don't have to have a gun rack in the back window of your truck to drink Johnny Walker. That's probably a bad combination anyway.
