Not really. I am married over 30 years, have gained and lost weight over that time and still wear the same ring he put on my finger all those years ago. Never had to have it resized either.

No because firstly rings can often be adjusted and secondly why would anyone assume that everyone puts on weight as they get older anyway?

My wedding ring is 21 years old and I can't wear it because I am much thinner than when I married, if you buy an oversized one it is far more likely to get lost and even if it's insured and replaced the sentimental value of having the original one is still gone.

If I had gained weight I would have done exactly what I do now, taken it off and reminded myself that I don't need a ring to prove I am married but there would always have been the option to lose weight or wear it on a chain around my neck, I wouldn't have wanted a new one personally because of the original sentiment.
