Even "baby books" - the read-to-me's for very young children - would likely have simple past tense. But start looking for "baby books" in libraries (public libraries) to start. It will help you develop vocabulary. And if you are in a college-level language course, you should be getting to past tense very shortly.

Stretch! Choose things which are a bit above your current level if you are serious about learning, developing skills. Also listen to things like Spanish-language news & programs on cable TV or online (youtube). No, you won't understand it all to begin with, but you will start becoming acclimated to rhythms, patterns, intonation, pronunciation, and that will serve you well as you progress. Try about 10 minutes a day, then to 15-min., etc.

You can often read and understand things that are at a higher level of grammar than you've studied. There are plenty of online Spanish lessons that include readings. Try them and see what you can get from them. Generally, vocabulary is more important for comprehending readings than grammar is.

If you are learning any language at a university I am sure they will have a good range of resources. Try their language centre and the university library.
