Best Trike motorcycle for College student?

I want to get some mode of transportation but I hate cars. (idk why but I'm blaming the autism cause that tends to be the root of things)

So I decided on a motorbike or scooter type thing, since my main issue is with the size of cars.

However my family is a bit concerned as according to them, "You and speed do not exist on the same plane."

However, the are find with a three wheeled motorbike or something else they feel more secure with?

Basically my needs are:

*Cheap/Affordable (I'd really like for it not to over 10k at the most, I'd really like under 5k, but looking at prices makes me think that might no be possible)

*Can be used instead of a car

*Three wheels or some other safety feature

*Space to store things would be nice

*and space for two people

*or side car possibility in the future

I agree with your parents. You're arguing against their advice and rationalizing your plan with your mental condition. I'll never forget when my college room mate's Triumph 650 got stolen. My bike was a POS nobody wanted to steal, but some ****** let the air out of a tire once. Cars are more secure if you need to carry things. Motorcycles are easier to park and cheaper to operate. Trikes are special, taking more space, yet being a different open-air vehicle. Start shopping. Maybe you'll find an old old trike that runs for $10K, but they often cost much more than that. If all you have is $5k you can get a nice small to medium size cycle like a 300cc Ninja or Honda, then spend the rest on a pair of helmets and other rough weather clothes you need. When I was a rider, I could never deny it. The smell of the road always preceeded me.

Three wheels isn't a "safety feature". Three wheeled vehicles have a nasty habit of flipping over with no warning.

Three wheelers have all the disadvantages of both a bike & a car.

A decent scooter with large wheels would do you better. Get a fairly low powered one (under 250cc) so you cant be tempted to speed. Also accept that you WILL come off at least once in your first year. Spend some money on suitable riding gear. Gloves, boots, jacket & pants.

Agree with Tim D- look at the Piaggio MP3, it's a scooter-trike that sorta rides like a motorcycle due to its front two wheels having independant suspenions. Givi makes top-boxes or side-boxes for storage.

Buy and wear good riding gear also, safe is better than sorry.

Source(s): Riding/racing for 55+ years, rode a Piaggio one time and thought it was pretty nice for a scooter.

Make sure you have insurance. Motorcycles have been know to disappear - especially when you don't have a garage for them. Given all your criteria, sounds like you need a car, and NOT a motorcycle.

But anyway, make a trip to the dealers - Honda, Yamaha, Harley, etc & see what they have.

Unless you find a great deal on something used, you've stated conflicting requirements. There's nothing new with three wheels under $5,000. If anything, three-wheelers are more expensive than two-wheelers because they are more complicated. You are much better off with a car or a Yamaha TW200 with hard cases. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zuXWHGEBPT0

" ... I hate cars ... my main issue is with the size of cars.... "

I dislike cars, also known as "cages." Cars have a steel cage to protect you when you crash. Cars have blind spots, slow, can't dodge. Motorcycles have no blind spots, are quick, can slip out of danger that will catch cages. But if your issue is the size, think "City Car" -- get a used Smart Fortwo, trivial to find one for under $5K.

" ... a three wheeled motorbike or something else they feel more secure with .... "

-- no. The advantage of two wheels is to get out of trouble. Three wheels are wide, you get stuck. Not to mention that three wheelers don't lean, which is the big advantage of two wheels.

" ... Basically my needs are:

    " ... Cheap/Affordable .... "

-- No problem, you can get a very good motorcycle/motor-scooter for under $5K.

" ... Can be used instead of a car.... "

-- No. That is why 99.8% of Americans drive cars instead riding a motorcycle.

" ... Three wheels or some other safety feature .... "

-- Not really. Motorcycles are safer because they can avoid collisions. If you do crash, in a car you have a 50-50 change of no injuries -- on a motorcycle you *will* be hurt.

" ... Space to store things would be nice .... "

-- saddle bags, tail boxes, on a scooter under seat storage and put stuff on the floorboard.

    " ... and space for two people .... "

-- assuming you mean two more people, bicycles and /or tricycles don't. You can attach a sidecar to a motorcycle and carry two or three passengers.

You'll hate the rain and cold like you never knew possible. Bikes and trikes are fun when you want to ride them but when it's your only mode of transportation they get old. Quick.

Found this for you. It's in Florida.

    FB Marketplace $3,800

    https://www.facebook.com/marketplace/item/34467396...

S/he didn't say where they lived. How am I supposed to know?.

Doesn't matter anyway. Rains a lot in Florida

I should have phrased my response in a different way- I once had a motorcyle as my only mode of transportation [IT WAS A 550 Honda Shadow NOT A 50!! :-)] it was in the midwest not Florida. Anyway there were days when I wished I had bought a car instead of a bike. Mostly weather related but not always

    Good luck
