Did R Whites (Camberwell) use shires (or others) and drays before WW2?

    It began as a horse and cart operation in the 19th century, so yes; they were known for using steam (traction) engines by about 1900 and some of their vehicles were requisitioned in The Great War, but the company still had stables in Brixton in the 1960s by which time they were part of Whitbreads.
