Why does it hurt to use a tampon?

Its hard to use tampons, especially when you have never used them before.

Bigger tampons are more uncomfortable. A really big tampon will hurt if you have never used them before. I've had my period for more than 10 years and I still think its uncomfortable to use a super tampon, so I don't use that size.

You also need to relax. Like another person has said, the vagina is a muscle. Its a super strong muscle too. Relax so this muscle is relaxed, and it won't hurt as bad.

A tampon is made of dry cotton. This is uncomfortable to put in if you don't have anything to help you lubricate the area. This is why many tampons are in plastic applicators, so the plastic helps it get inside. If this is an issue for you, use a bit of vaseline on the end of the tampon to help. This won't get it the way of it doing its job either.

You also need to angle the tampon correctly to get inside you. Each woman has a slightly different angle to her lady bits on the inside. It takes a bit of trial and error to find the perfect angle for you. Read the directions that come with the box of tampons, and follow those to start.

If a pap smear ever hurts, speak up and say something. A pap smear isn't ever going to feel great, its uncomfortable and honestly I personally hate them, but they should never hurt or make you want to say 'ouch'.

in the clinc where I work pap smears are never done on virgins. The tampon adivce is uner 24 shouldnt use them

You should speak up if it hurts while theyre doing something like that. Thats not normal. You should go back and get checked out. What kind of pain is it
