Are white kitchen appliances out of date? What about resale value?
I am redoing my kitchen. I have selected white modern kitchen cabinets with a marble top. There is a white tile floor, and my walls are neutral silver. The room is rather dark -- and I like the bright white space. I want to pick white appliances (kitchen, range, dishwasher) to go along with the cabinets. But it seems everywhere I look stainless steel in in vogue. I really do not like stainless much (it looks cold to me) but there is no price difference these days between the two finishes -- and white is harder to get. I think I will end up selling my condo in about two years. Would I be better off going with stainless even though white appliances match the room better now?

I have had white kitchen appliances, sinks and toilet bowls for 40 years and never not once have I ever regretted it. White is classic and always fits in.
Sure, stainless is the rage, I get it, but I don't like stainless appliances because they are hell to keep smudge free, especially if you have a pet or children or otherwise messy people in your home. Stainless looks so cold to me, always has.
I just bought a Samsung French door fridge with a freezer on the bottom (Best Buy, on sale from $1699 to $1090) and I LOVE it. Like yours, my kitchen is not all that bright, so white appliances open up the space quite a bit.
As an interior decorator, many of my clients love the look of clean stainless steel appliances but every single one of them despise the cleaning maintenance. Especially if you get an exterior water and ice feature...there are forever water marks on the "stainless" fridge door. Why they call it stainless steel is beyond me because stainless shows every little streak, speck and fingerprint.

White is always current.

I just watched an episode of "This Old House" where the homeowners were going with white for the "retro" look. Had to laugh because all our appliances are retro, I guess. Here's the thing, colors come and go, but white is always available. Try to find an avocado or brown appliance these days. Someday, stainless (and black) will look just as dated.
If you're in it for the long haul, please your own taste. Rest assured that if your white fridge conks out in 15 yrs, you'll still be able to find one that matches your stove and dishwasher. IMO, the only reason it makes sense to go with the trends is to please the future owners....if you sell in the next few years. A *new* kitchen is only new for a few years, then it's resale value decreases. Unless you *know* you're going to sell soon, go with a color scheme that YOU like.

Any real estate agent will tell you a kitchen can make or break a sales deal. You can call a real estate agent and ask for an appraisal. Tell them you will sell in two years and want an appraisal for the cost of the condo now and how to improve it for a quick high sale later. Let them know you will be redoing the kitchen and they will give you their advise. They know what sells. They hear what buyers like and don’t like.
White is out of date. Ask at your applicance store what percentage kitchen appliances bought are white.

Stainless is in now. Resale value of what, the fridge? Nobody buys used fridges. They are used until they are junked.

Have the kitchen that YOU want, now. You might fall under a bus next week. Don't waste your life thinking about what might happen two years down the line.

Avocado goes out of date. White does not. Veto SS--unless you want it to look like a laundromat. You should take a look at the Bay Window VW Bus style known as The Silverfish. Reminds me of your color scheme. I like the silver walls.

Do stainless. Period. Especially since you’re redoing your kitchen. White never looks up to date.
Stainless has been the go to for 15-20 years and has no signs of slowing. The main exception is if you are doing hidden built-ins, which I’m guessing you are not, so go stainless.
