Is it possible to have normal cervical smears and then on your next one have developed cancer or precancerous cells or is it highly unlikely ? And what can cause things to change from having a normal. Smear ?

Of course it's possible. That's why you have regular smears.

It is, but the second one is usually borderline changes, not fully cancerous. I had loads of these over 30 years, never came to anything.
I worked out it was when I had thrush or taken antibiotics or sex a day before.UK.
