Find the height of each triangle .

    It is (20 - x)/2 [cm] .

The base of these triangles is x [cm] , so the area of one triangle is

    (1/2)x(20 - x)/2 = x(20 - x)/4 [cm^2] .

There are four triangles , so the sum is

    [x(20 - x)/4] * 4 = x(20 - x) = 20x - x^2 [cm^2] .

The area of the square base is x^2 [cm^2] , so the surface of the pyramid is

    (20x - x^2) + x^2 = 20x [cm^2] .

    Hint:

    Area of 1 triangle = x^2 (√(3)/4)
