Can one safely install and run both AVG -- & Kaspersky Antivirus simultaneously? I heard AVG can "pair" safely with other Antivirus.?

Your expertise appreciated! I know it's standard to reckon that multiple Antivirus programs on a computer are bad not good -- but at least a couple sources online cite AVG as an lonely exception saying it can detect another antivirus, and shut itself to 'background'. One source cited doing this as a, strong move... Would you agree this, and in particular -- could you reckon running AVG along with Kaspersky as wise?

Never run ANY AV in tandem with another. I don;t care what any company claims, it is a recipe for failure every single time.

No, only run one AV product at a time.

The reason is that two AV will argue with each other. Say AV #1 finds a virus, and tries to quarantine it. As it writes it to quarantine (accesses it), the AV#2 sees it being accessed, and tries to quarantine it also. The two AV products keep triggering each other as they try to read/move the infected file. You could end up with some "lockup" of the system.

In reality, the first AV to grab the file I/O subsystem (hooks into it) is the one that does most of the work. The second AV simply tags onto the first one's interface.

No one AV is 100%. Safe Internet habits is the best protection, along with a good AV product and a good 3rd party firewall.
