What do you mean 'being gay', you can stop conforming to gay stereotypes, never engage in sexual activities of the same sex, even get married and have a straight relationship. But can you develop a sexual preference for the opposite sex and diminish attraction to the same sex, if you're 100% sure that you're gay? Unlikely, they've tried 'treating' homosexuality for years prior to it no longer being recognised as a mental condition in most western countries, and the methods used were consistently ineffective and often damaging.

Consider the glutton who still has to eat.
The gossip who still has to talk.
Or the person who is heterosexual but not married.
The desire might never go away, but the human is capable of saying "not today"!
The alcoholic remains an alcoholic even when they are not drunk. Those who "get cured" will tell you that it is a daily reprieve and depends on daily diligence not to return to the bottle.
The desire may not ever go away, but the desire does not dictate indulging.

Well, you already sound pretty damn unhappy, so that's half the battle won. You get yourself to completely miserable, then you'll be there.

It's a choice. It's a very personal choice. Sure you may find an attraction to the same sex, but that doesn't mean you're gay. In the end it's ultimately your choice if you want to be gay or not. It's all part of your exploration of self discovery.
Like for me, I'm female. I can safely say that yes there are people of the same sex that I find attractive. Like hello, Scarlet Johansson anyone? But that does not mean I'm gay, because my sexual preference is towards men.
