While experiencing pain during the passing of a kidney stone. Does this mean it's traveling?

I've been dealing with a kidney stone now for 5 days. The excruciating pain comes and goes. When it's there it'll last for several hours. Does pain mean it's making it's way?

According to my urologist, the kidney stone itself does not cause pain. The back-up of urine behind the kidney stone causes pain. Since you haven't passed the stone in 5 days, the odds are not good that you're going to pass it without some kind of medical intervention. Call your doctor now, or get to an urgent care clinic now.
