No, I think he genuinely lost his will to live. I have noticed that with a lot of celebrity suicides, most die when they've achieved the most. From my own perspective, I tried to out compete and be the most successful at everything I tried to do because I felt that I was less valuable than other people due to how different I was compared to most people. Most people where I work took years to get into even a low level management position, but for me I received a promotion every four months since the time I started. Which made me not only one of the youngest managers, but also one of newest employees to have a position like that, since they mostly promoted from within. I might have lacked work experience, but certainly not work ethic. Sadly, what drove my work ethic was the worthlessness that I felt inside of me. I always felt a striving to become better and to achieve, but every time I obtained what I desired I felt like it didn't matter, and that despite my efforts I still got nothing for them. I think for these people, such as Bourdain, his loss of the will to live could have been something similar to mine.
