When you opt for an "all you can eat" menu offering or elect to indulge in a buffet, that means you can eat as much as you want.....WHILE YOU ARE THERE. There are NO take home options as those offerings are only for "dining in".

If everyone was able to fill up containers of food from an all you can eat option on the menu, then people would be consuming/taking more food than the restaurant is being paid for, causing lost profits.

    Certainly you can understand that!!

Now, on the other hand, if you ordered and paid for a served meal option, you are certainly welcome to take home what you cannot finish on your plate OR place a to-go order from other menu selections.

Again: all you can eat means "All you can eat right then and there".

I'm sure you'll be recognized the next time you dine there. You may not want the soup.

Please stay away from my restaurant. I picture you hauling a 55 gallon barrel up to the all you can eat buffet.

She doesn't make the rules, she just follows them. You lucked out if you were able to take soup home in the past. I think perhaps YOU were the jerk in this instance.

She was simply following the company policy,to blame her for it is petty.Your decision to not leave the waitress a tip was your choice, and if you would have done so because you felt like you got terrible service, that would be one thing, but in my opinion to not leave her a tip over something that she had no control over is petty.

You screwed a waitress out of her living because she was following company policy? Isn't the deal now endless refills on soup and salad or something? Of course that is dine-in. Shame on you - go back and give her a proper tip.
