When your pet dies, what to do with the body?
Cremate or bury? My friend is so upset I'm having a hard time persuading her to let go.

I have taken my dogs out in the country to bury them and taken them to a pet cemetery to be buried there. I have never had an animal cremated.
It might comfort her to know that she can visit at the cemetery when ever it is open. Good luck.

It`s a very individual choice and a lot depends on how deep the relationship was with dog and owner.
In the past I have buried 2 dogs on my land but found it hard to leave them there when I moved house.
So I now have them cremated individually (not in mass cremations) and the ashes put in a casket, so I can take them with me if I ever move again.
It may be sentimental but if I have a "special relationship" with one of my dogs it would upset me to just let the vet dispose of their body and not know where it ended up, although in the past I "have" left a couple of dogs at the vets to be disposed of due to the circumstances at that time.
Home burials are not always successful if the grave is not deep enough or covered in concrete, and wild scavengers can smell the corpse and dig it up to eat.
There ARE pet cemetery`s where you can pay a fee and have a pet buried there safely, and have a memorial put on the grave, which is a nice way to go.

Most people bury in the back garden as it is free and nearby!

I have a yard, so my pets were burried where they liked to be best. If there is no room for that, maybe cremate, but I have never liked the thoughts of a pet cemetary and would never take my pet to one.

I personally recommend burial, preferably in a pet cemetery and not your yard. Seeing a grave or urn every day will be a constant reminder of the pet.
