i've had that problem. click on the menu button and then click on scan. It usually takes a little while. If that doesn't work, look in Systems Preferences and click on the printer scanner. Open it up and see that the correct printer scanner is highlighted.

We really need more information about your HP scanner. Is it a printer - scanner - copier? Did you install the complete software package on your computer hard drive? If you did install the software on your computer, did you make sure to install the scanner package and create a file for scanned articles to go to? Please update your question for us.

    - Make/Model of HP device?

    - Are you using the HP Scanner app or using the menu on the scanner?

    - Any error messages received?

    - Unplug the device for 30 seconds, then plug it in and retest using just the scanner's buttons.

Tell us what happened with the test.

no idea. start the scan from your computer with the software provided by HP, not from the scanner. be sure to give the software time to create the output file that you named [remember the name, you may need it to find the output file]

Might have to use it with a program that starts or demands a scanning function. Any TWAIN device called by a graphics program would do.

Imagine you ringing the garage -Tell me, how do I fix my car? It won’t start. what do you think the response would be?

In the same way vague questions like "why can't I scan" will get little or no response simply because we can't give a helpful answer

Update your answer with more information, like make and model of printer/scanner, make and model of computer, is it a new problem? how is the scanner connected, wifi? USB?. Have you selected the correct scanner defaults? Are there any error messages or warning lights?

If the scanner is new then speak to the support line of the manufacturer after all that's what you paid for. Often there is a troubleshooting table to run through on the manufacturer's website
