Can we be evicted for complaining about bed bugs?
We reside in an employee housing unit with a large hotel as my Boyfriend is an employee here..we have been repeatedly bitten by bed bugs..they have sprayed twice to no avail. They will not let us take care of this ourselves and the general manager says they can't spend $650 a spray any longer. We never had a problem until we moved into this transient housing situation....now as senior citizens we are looking at being homeless as we have been told we have 30 days to vacate. I am meeting with an attorney next week...do I have a case?
We pay rent here under a rental contract, nothing is free....we offered to use our own resources to rid the unit of bugs and they declined.

They have an obligation to treat the issue, whether they can afford it or not.
They are not evicting you, they are choosing not to rent to you anymore, which they can do.

Get advise from a local tenant advocate group. You can probably sue the apartment to resolve the issue but the treat a law suit is probably enough to get them to resolve it.

They can try but their reasoning won't be because you complained about bed bugs. It will probably be for harassment or they will fabricate some other reason for eviction. Why do you want to live where there are bed bugs? I'd be out of there soon. I'd be negotiating getting out of the lease if I were you.

I knew of someone who stayed one night at a hotel, and later sued and won a settlement for the value of his entire wardrobe, because he said he brought them back to his house. Not sure about eviction because laws vary by state, but you probably could get money at least.

Yeah
I'm one of the few who realize that when you say "take care of it ourselves" you mean "I want them to pay for me hiring,,,"
What do you think you have a case for?
You refused their housing arrangement. They say "OK get out then." At that point you can quit, or demand a raise. They aren't obligated to cater to you, as you're an employee. You're not paying rent. You're working in return for a place to live. All that means is they will need to evict you, which is what they just did when they say "thirty more days."
Odds are it isn't even a legal arrangement for you to live there. Most hotels aren't allowed to have guests over 28 days and are severely limited as to allowing people to live on the property.
You don't mention where you're doing this, but in general, about the best you can hope for is to get the cost of the rental unit applied to your unemployment benefits.

Your boyfriend should get a different job so then you can move out of the buggy motel.
He would be fired not evicited.
