    a.

    (1.00 L) x (0.50 M) / (18 M) = 0.028 L

So take 28 mL of the concentrated H2SO4 and dilute it to exactly 1.00 L.

    b.

    (1.00 L) x (0.50 M) / (12 M) = 0.042 L

So take 42 mL of the concentrated HCl and dilute it to exactly 1.00 L.
