contactless card or oyster card?

will be traveling in Europe soon and will be traveling in Germany UK and some of the other nations.

Will take taxi bus train and pay for foods and hotels

For UK, Oystercards seems the best choice.

I have downloaded the oyster card app now it is asking me to either add an oyster card or an contactless card.

If I am traveling through these nations and will do these things described above, will adding the contactless card be enough or will be adding both cards be enough?

Adding both is ok? If traveling in UK, with this app turned on, when scanning my phone, the consumption by which card will be done?

Oyster / Contactless payment cards price caps v Travelcard prices. Travelcards are a flat rate pass where you have unlimited rides for the time period purchased. Oyster / Contactless payment cards are charged on a per journey basis but has a daily maximum you can be charged.

Carry a Contactless Card AND cash - I rely on a bus in rural south west UK and the ONLY way of paying is cash.

The Oystercard is ONLY for public transport in London. So it's no use to you anywhere else. What it does is that it's a stored value card you can add money to and you use it to pay on London buses and trains by touching it on the yellow readers. The app mentions contactless cards because those will also work the same way in London, if they're British cards or compatible with the system.

None of this is of any use anywhere else in the UK, never mind in any other countries. The app is only any good for Londoners.

The app has nothing to do with anything. You don't need it.

If you have a contactless card, just use that when you pass through the barriers. You don't need to register it beforehand.

If you don't have one, then you will need to get an Oyster card and charge it up. That can be done online, or at a station once you get here (if you can find a member of staff).

Info for UK. You can only buy an Oyster online if you have a permanent UK address. I think you may be mixing up the app which allows you to manage your Oyster account. What you probably need to do is to buy an Oyster card while you are in London. It won't work anywhere else in UK except London. If you are only staying in London and for a couple of days you are actually probably better off buying a travelcard. These can be bought for one day's travel or more and for various zones within the London travel zones. The further out of London you plan to go, the more you will pay, so if you are only visiting tourism sites, it will be cheaper.

To make sure that you cover all possibilities, get both cards. There is nothing wrong with having both of them.
