Air flow for an RX 580?
I have an MSI Rx 580 wit the twin frozer (or how ever its spelled) cooler on it. I was wondering if this cooler pulls air from the case into the card or pushes the heat out from the card into the case?
Okay, I think my initial inquiry was misunderstood. When you mount a dual fan gpu into a case the fans are always (except the vertical mounters out there) faced down towards the bottom of the case. Are the cards fans pushing the air down towards my power supply, or is it sucking air from that part of the case up into the card.

it pulls air from below and pushes it out every direction except through the card to the top of the case.
strong air flow is needed for the cards to stay cool.

Yes. But many cards have a grill on the external metal bracket for warm air to exit the case. For more cooling, install case fans or install liquid heat extraction system.
Source(s): When I put in a GTX 750 Ti card into my case, I put a plastic shield across the top of the card. This cover uses an empty slot outside cover hole to feed outside air into the fans. They cool the chips and then the grill on the card is the exit for warm air. Very effective but I don't game much so heat production is never high anyway. - DickLv 72 years ago
That is exactly what it does. There is no "ducting" to pull air in from the outside or to push the exhaust to the outside. So everything the cooling system does is by using case air in and warmed case air out. If you have a water cooler on your CPU and some additional fans moving air directionally then you'll be okay. Cases and Motherboards determine what you can do for additional cooling. Motherboards may have additional fan headers to plug into, and case size will determine if you have enough height above the MoBo surface to mount a water cooler. My system has a Corsair water cooler with two stacked exhaust fans out the back. Two fans pulling cool air in from the front grill. One fan on the left side panel pulling cool air in. And two exhaust fans pulling the warm air out through the top. You can easily see that the air is coming in the front and the side and is being exhausted out the top and back of the case. Additionally, there is the cooling fan built into the power supply. So ... You can never really have too much cooling. The water cooler was about $100 but you can generally find a kit of 4 fans for around $20 to $30. I know you asked about your GPU but I figured I'd give you a plan for total cooling at the same time. Hope this helps!

That particular card is going to end up pushing most of it's heat into the case as most of them will unless you have a ducted cooling system or a liquid cooling system on it.
