Mathematics?

The exhibition needs a display stage which is 3m by 180cm and 50cm high. Blocks to make this come in two sizes: a) 50cm x 40cm x 50cm or b) 100cm x 50cm x 20cm Which is the most appropriate size block? How many need ordering to build the stage? Block= ?

    The Gnostic is correct:

    3m = 300cm, divide by 100cm to get 3

    180cm divide by 20cm to get 9

    50cm divide by 50cm to get 1

    Number of blocks needed: 3 * 9 * 1 = 27

    The first block size has a side of 40cm which is not a factor of any of the three sides of the stage. This would have wasted area.

    The second block size can build the stage with exactly 27 blocks.
