Because lack of diversity destroys the food supply. A country can survive without social cohesion. It can't survive without food.

Diversity itself is a circumstance, that's it. It's not inherently positive or beneficial just as it's not inherently negative or non-beneficial.

Take a situation, hiring people. Hiring someone who has an MBA over someone who has a B.S. in business is quantitatively beneficial in its standard. Hiring someone who has a certain skin tone over hiring someone else that has a different skin tone provides no quantitative benefit.
