The garden designer is making a scale model of the whole design to exhibit during the exhibition. The length of the garden is 65 m and its width is 28 metres What scale will she need to use if the length of the model has to fit against a wall-space measuring 1.3m? Scale-

    The wall space is 1.3 m

    That equates to the length of the garden which is 65 m

    So the scale is:

    1.3 : 65

    But we want to make those integers. Start by multiplying both by 10:

    13 : 650

    Then reduce the ratio, by dividing both by 13:

    1 : 50

    Answer:

    The scale on the model is 1:50 (meaning each unit of 1 on the model is equal to 50 in real life).
