i think you mean "identify".
what they mean is, "I am unhappy with the sex I was born as, and I want other people to pretend I am the opposite gender, or none at all, in order to make me feel better about myself, and I will shame them if they don't".

It really depends on what they have to say next, like if it's "your murderer," I'm not so much thinking "why" as much as I'm thinking, "I gotta get the furck outta here."
