Why is American cheese so inferior to English Cheese?

Monterey Jack is as dull as my Aunt Barbara and American cheese singles are the cheese equivalent of a cheap little hoe. Cheddar, Red Leister, Stilton... Ugh... I inhale them.

Was your independence worth losing England's famed cheeseboard?

You're comparing apples and oranges. Shitty cheese is widely available in England too. The English don't buy Stilton instead of Cheese - Whiz. There are very good American cheeses made from sheep's milk, good Chedday-type cheeses, good ripened cheeses (is Liederkranz available again?), good blue (Maytage), etc. It may not be sold in Kroger's but it is out there.

I think you have posted this in the wrong area (Chicago Travel). You should post it under Food & Drink.
