Why is everyone involved in dogs so shitty? WTF?

I am so done. I tried working a vet's office, and I got verbally abused for an hour because someone said everyone that fed raw was an idiot. I even hid most of my views and just said "Well people are just trying to do the best for their pet and their aren't a lot of studies."

I have no problem with raw. Their aren't ANY studies that say they are better or worse.

But everyone says vets have all these studies, that they won't release to the world.

And now I'm getting a nasty attitiude because you absolutely should make sure your dog isn't immuno-supressed if you are doing raw!

WHY THE F*CK IS EVERYONE SO AWFUL?

I just can't fricking win. I'm scared to go back to work for even sticking up for raw, I'm losing my health insurance,l but somehow I'm a terrible person for saying a dog who is immuno-supressed should consult a vet about raw? Salmonella doesn't cause really any symptoms in a healthy dog, but for immuno-suppressed, it DOES.

Not everyone involved with dogs is terrible. Many of us are quite friendly, give to charities, shovel our neighbors' walkway. But, there are many people in many walks of life who have an ill-informed opinion that they push as fact. You've run into some who "feel" that raw feeding is bad. And you're correct that the research is not there about properly created, species appropriate raw diet being a problem. They've even had to walk back the claim that raw fed dogs exude cells that are dangerous to immuno-compromised hospital patients.

Dont join any reptile groups on facebook! You think dog people are shitty over what to feed a dog?

Ha! You've clearly never seen a debate over loose substrate, lighting, soaks, and pinkies!

People who own pets are passionate about their animals. And they naturally think their way is the best. If they want to debate about what someone else is doing, its because they care about the welfare of the animal.

Look, virtually all vets get KICK BACKS certain from the drugs and vaccine makers and most from dog food companies, hence the PUSH to sell certain foods and drugs or pet products..... IN the practice.

MY OWN HOLISTIC vet told me this. She had to fight to use what she thought was right & she fed raw to her own pets, and advocated for raw diets for her clients (in most cases) versus manufactured kibble. And yes, it WAS her stated personal opinion and 35+ years of veterinary experience that if a dog had cancer or any other immuno-suppression problem, she COULD NOT and would NOT (in good conscience) recommend a RAW DIET, under those situations.

Despite the fact she felt strongly virtually ALL cats and dogs should eat RAW diets, her practice still carried some RX diets (for certain medical issues) and she had some vets within the practice she OWNED, who were not holistic and not comfortable telling clients to feed raw.

Many western-medicine practicing vets are NOT well trained in nutrition. there are few course in it and all are underwritten or TAUGHT BY people heavily underwritten or supported by if not directly FROM one of the BIG DOG FOOD MAKERS (who also underwrite nearly all the VET SCHOOL GRANTS, SCHOLARSHIPS & major medical MACHINES needed. (Certainly NONE of the DOG FOOD MAKERS, are in favor of anyone feeding RAW, because it hits them on the bottom line...... known as their PROFIT MARGIN.)

You also need to remember not everyone feels comfortable or is capable of doing all the WORK necessary, to feed a GOOD RAW diet. A poorly made or unbalanced raw diet, does not benefit any dog. There are a LOT of IDIOTS out there. Too many people think they can just feed RAW MEAT,...period.

As a receptionist, it is NOT YOUR PLACE to give food or medical advice or to PASS JUDGEMENT, on anybody. That is NOT what you are paid to do.

Their treating vet is the last word at the practice on what to feed.

It is not up to you, what others a client may listen to or consult (outside the practice - such as their breeder) for nutritional advice. You can suggest somebody read a certain book or books on canine nutrition but even that might be "frowned on". By NOT offering any advice or opinions on feeding, if they get BAD ADVICE it is NOT YOUR FAULT or that of the PRACTICE - GET MY DRIFT? ($$$)

Can I suggest it might be best if you keep your views to yourself when at work? I don't know what position you hold with your vet's Practice, but for one, those on Reception have to hold their tongue .... one reason why I'd never survive in that position LOL. Over time, you'll learn to develop a thick(er) skin with most things in life. For the record, most vets tend not to promote raw feeding because they see the result of dogs who have been 'raw feed' but not with a properly balanced raw food diet. And then there's the fact that most are urged (paid?) to promote certain brands of complete food.

Every dog owner has their own opinions on what its best to feed dogs with.

There are pro`s and con`s to any diet a dog is fed, but what suits one dog, may not suit another.

To get so upset about other peoples opinions is just ridiculous.

I stick by what "I" believe is right for MY dog and just ignore anyone who thinks they know better.

After 56 years of owning and feeding dogs without any problems arising, I am confident enough to feel I know what is best for any one of them.

Stick up for what YOU believe in, the same as every other dog owner does.

IN fact, a dog, being a natural scavenger, will thrive on most foods and I know of a dog (GSD) that was lost for 6 weeks and found living in a isolated barn in a field, and had been surviving very well on eating mostly cow dung and looked in superb condition. (true story).
